As an innovator and advisor, industry veteran John Vann helped to shape how advisors and their clients work together today, both as one of the three co-founders of Hutton Capital Management and as one of the pioneers of wrap account programs under E.F. Hutton, who he joined in 1972 after serving in the U.S. Army.
Since that time, John has enjoyed an impressive career serving institutions, affluent investors and family offices as advisor and portfolio manager. John started his own successful investment firm, Rushmore Investment Advisors, in 1996, which he ran for over two decades, and has served as Chief Investment Officer and portfolio manager for several of America’s most successful independent investment advisory firms.
He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1970, and was certified by the New York Institute of Finance in 1972. In 1992, John earned his Executive Investment Management Degree from the renowned Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He has also received an honorary degree from Stafford University. An avid writer about portfolio management, John authored the book Leadership Investing, which was published by McGraw-Hill in 1998.
John is very active in his community, including two terms on the Denton Airport Advisory Board and two terms on the Badge of Honor Foundation Board. He regularly participates in numerous volunteer activities in Denton and Plano. John is also a 32 Degree Master Mason, which means that he is active in all aspects of supporting the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children to help make sure that no one is ever turned away because of their inability to pay.
John is also a licensed pilot with more than 7,000 hours of flight time, most of which was accumulated while traveling to visit his many clients throughout the United States. When John is not working, he enjoys travel and spending time with his family, including his five children and ten grandchildren.
