Per Stirling Volunteers! – Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of South Central Texas

Per Stirling’s Volunteer Initiative for February focused efforts on raising funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) of South-Central Texas. LLS is a nonprofit that began in 1949 and since then has invested nearly $1.3 billion in groundbreaking research and is at the forefront of the fight to cure cancer.

“The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.”

Grace May, a junior at St. Michael’s Academy, was nominated by the organization in their 4th annual Students of the Year fundraising challenge. Grace lost her grandmother to cancer in 2018 when she began High School and she describes is as a, “painful and eye-opening experience to how fragile life can be”. Through the students of the year program, her goal was to raise money and awareness in efforts to finding a cure.

Unfortunately, there is no early detection for blood cancers, only the search for a cure. With February’s efforts, Per Stirling was able to make monetary donations that exceeded $1,000 towards Grace May’s fundraising challenge!

During the month of March, we plan to focus on raising funds and awareness for Jail to Jobs. This organization focuses on helping youthful offenders to find purpose, personal growth and achievement by giving them a support system and practical life skills to find employment.
