OctoberPer Stirling Volunteers! – Suicide Prevention Awareness
As September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, it is an appropriate time to bring attention to this important topic, and to encourage positive dialogue, awareness and professional treatment as a means of preventing this terrible outcome.
If we were in a stadium full of seated people, and asked for everyone who has been, or knows someone who has been affected by suicide or mental illness to stand, there would be very few, if any, who remained seated. It is currently the tenth leading cause of death in the United States. Fortunately, there are several organizations and resources that make prevention efforts more common and increasingly effective.
Some of the organizations that Per Stirling focused on this month were: Suicide Prevention, Mental Illness Alliance, Mental Health America, Anxiety and Depression Association of America, and the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation. Through these organizations, Per Stirling staff and advisors made monetary donations to aid in improving the lives of those affected by mental illness.
The month of November will focus efforts on Breast Cancer Awareness and The Hunter 5K.
