Per Stirling Volunteers! – A 2021 Retrospective

It is hard to believe that we are already half-way through the first quarter of 2022 and, before too much time passes, our team wanted to reflect back upon some of our initiatives of 2021, and the importance that we place on giving back to our community.

We are grateful to have received a variety of wonderful suggestions from employees, advisors and Per Stirling clients, in regard to worthwhile causes to consider for 2022, and we are increasingly hopeful that progress against the pandemic will allow us to be much more “hands-on” this year, in our efforts to make a difference for those in need.

In many regards, COVID impacted our community outreach efforts in 2021 as much as it did in 2020.  However, we are so proud of the efforts of our team, who have remained so dedicated to these programs, and who have been remarkably resourceful in finding creative ways, throughout the pandemic, to make a difference, while also remaining as safe as possible.

We are looking forward to updating you on our 2022 initiatives in communications throughout the year.  In the meantime, we wanted to offer a look-back at Per Stirling volunteering in 2021.

February 2021 – American Heart Month
Per Stirling staff & advisors made a commitment to get outdoors this month, to get at least 30-minutes of physical activity each day, and to encourage our friends and families to do the same. Most of us found some red to wear on February 5th (American Heart Day) to help bring awareness to this cause.

March 2021 – Amplify Austin
Per Stirling’s staff and advisors made an impact on Amplify Austin day 2021 by donating to the following non-profit organizations: Austin EMS Relief Fund, Hutto Resource Center, Austin Pets Alive, Mobile Loaves & Fishes, Central Texas Food Bank, Conspirare, and Honduras Good Works. Each of our donations were then matched under the Amplify Austin program to maximize their impact!

April 2021 – Earth Day
In April, we made a local impact by donating funds to the Austin Parks Foundation to improve our city’s parks, trails, and green spaces.  Funds were also donated to the Rainforest Foundation, and several of our staff planted new trees and plants.

May & June 2021 – Austin Pets Alive!
Per Stirling came together to support Austin Pets Alive (APA) and, in the month of June alone, Per Stirling raised $1,400 towards the cause. One of our Partners adopted a fur-baby from Austin Pets Alive and named him Victor. (Pictured below):

Another Advisor ran into a sweet little kitten at an empty picnic rest stop all by himself at about 3-4 weeks old. He ran up to their golden retriever, Holly, and begged to have a home. Now he does. His name is Picnic and he’s 6 or 7 weeks old (pictured below).

July 2021 – Ruby’s Rainbow
Due to the limitations on volunteerism imposed by the ongoing pandemic, Per Stirling’s support came in the form of monetary donations to their scholarship fund. Click Here to learn more about Ruby’s Rainbow and the important work that they do.

August 2021 – Back to School
This year, donations helped purchase backpacks filled with supplies, laptops, educational software and after-school meals for more than 600 students!

Monetary Donations were also made to Austin Angels, an Austin-based non-profit that focuses on kids in foster care and the increased struggles they face during the pandemic. Austin Angels works actively to provide stability and to teach the skills necessary to face the challenges experienced by children and youth in foster care.

We were also able to make monetary donations towards the AISD Crisis Support Fund. The Austin Ed Fund supports school communities by supplementing access to food services, health programs, remote and in-person learning needs and much more.

September 2021 – Breast Cancer Awareness
This Year, there was an option to walk with others in person as well as virtually. The walk was held on October 24th and a handful of Per Stirling Advisors and employees participated in person as well as virtually. In the month of September, Per Stirling raised over $2,000 for our initiative.

Over $500 was donated in support to Komen’s work to save lives through breakthrough research, advocacy and support, including through Komen’s Breast Care Helpline, Clinical Trial Information Helpline, Treatment Assistance Program and other direct patient support services.

Over $2,000 was donated to the Cancer Research Institute. These monetary donations directly impact the discovery and development of powerful immunotherapies for all types of cancers—funding more breakthroughs and saving more lives.

October 2021 – Hunter 5K
Per Stirling was humbled to be a part of the Hunter 5K for a second year in a row, and looks forward to sponsoring and being a part of the superheroes who walk to celebrate the life of Hunter in the years to come.

November 2021 – Texas Food Bank
This year, because of the recent reduction in Central Texas COVID cases, we were very pleased to again be able to volunteer in person! Per Stirling staff visited the Central Texas Food Bank, where they sorted food and made emergency food relief boxes for families, which included potatoes, carrots, onions, bread and pastries along with some additional vegetables. Others helped with composting to avoid any food waste. Per Stirling staff and advisors also contributed a substantial supply of non-perishable goods to be added to the Food Pantry.

December 2021 – Partnerships for Children
This year, through funds donated by Per Stirling staff and advisors, we were able to bring joy to the holidays for 10 children in need! Ages ranged from 3 months to 16 years old, and gifts ranged from dolls and toy cars to tablets and kindles. We are very appreciative of charities and organizations like Partnerships for Children, who work hard to provide gifts and toys to children in need to help ensure that they have a wonderful holiday season!

What a year 2021 was! Cheers to the new year, and to our commitment to make an even bigger impact on our local communities in 2022.
