FebruaryPer Stirling Volunteers: 2023’s Successes and our Goals for 2024!
As we make our plans for 2024, we felt that it was important to first look back upon the impact made through our volunteer initiatives in 2023.
We view this program as a team effort, and it should be emphasized that last year’s Community Initiatives agenda was actually a compilation of ideas presented by Per Stirling’s advisors, staff and (most importantly) clients. We expect to continue this tradition in 2024 and are reaching out to each member of the Per Stirling “family” to help us to identify worthy causes that we can support in 2024 and beyond.
In February of 2023, we focused our efforts on the Jeremiah Project, which is a national organization whose mission is to disrupt the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children. While there were not many opportunities for volunteerism, we spent the month raising funds for this worthwhile cause.
In March, Per Stirling participated in Amplify Austin Day, organized by the “I Live Here I Give Here” campaign, and raised funds for local nonprofit organizations, which were matched through the Amplify Austin program thus doubling their impact. Also, in the aftermath of last year’s winter storm, advisors and staff volunteered during “My Park Day” at Brentwood Park, where we cleared debris and helped to restore the beauty of the park.
In April, Per Stirling supported Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Central Texas’ Bowl for Kids event by donating much needed funds.
Throughout May, Per Stirling’s staff and advisors focused on supporting one of our favorite causes, Austin Pets Alive!. In addition to monetary donations, Per Stirling participated in the annual “Paddle for Puppies” event on Lady Bird Lake.
Over June and July, Per Stirling focused on supporting students and schools by providing funds and school supplies both to a local preschool and donations to The TEXAS YES Project.
During August of 2023, central Texas and Hawaii both experienced destructive wildfires. In response, staff and advisors joined together to aid affected communities and support local firefighters. Contributions were directed to organizations like Austin Disaster Relief, Austin Fire Foundation, Hawaiian Way Fund, Maui United Way, and the Maui Food Bank.
In September, we focused on two important causes: raising awareness about childhood cancer and supporting environmental cleanliness. Advisors and employees participated in a Kayak Clean-up event at Ladybird Lake, collecting over 7 pounds of litter in just one hour! Additionally, Per Stirling supported St. Jude’s annual Walk/Run event, which raised over $185,000, surpassing its $180,000 goal, and involved 1,656 participants.
In October, one of the firm’s Partners, Barton Couch, sponsored the “Honduras Good Works Top Golf Chip-In” charity event for the sixth consecutive year. A Live Auction and paddles-up session facilitated additional donations, that exceeded fundraising goals, totaling over $225,000 raised year-to-date!
Our November Community Initiative focused on feeding the hungry through a collaboration with the Central Texas Food Bank, and by participating in their Corporate Challenge. We exceeded our goal and raised enough funds to provide 8,350 meals! During a company potluck, staff and advisors also contributed canned goods and non-perishables to further support the food bank.
For our December Community Initiative, Per Stirling supported Partnerships for Children, Carrying Hope, and the SAFE Alliance by fulfilling “wish lists” for requested gifts, thus ensuring a special Christmas for underprivileged children. Financial contributions were also made to Carrying Hope, Partnerships for Children, and SAFE Alliance.
We eagerly anticipate the opportunities that lie ahead in 2024 and to building on the successes of previous years. To this end, we are looking for other opportunities that will be both impactful and sustainable.
