SeptemberPer Stirling Volunteers! – Patriot PAWS
Per Stirling employees and advisors selected Patriot PAWS for our August Volunteer Initiative. The mission of Patriot PAWS is to train and provide service dogs of the highest quality, at no cost to disabled American veterans and others with mobile disabilities, in order to help restore their physical and emotional independence.
It takes about 2 ½ years and approximately $35,000 to train a single service dog, and the non-profit provides them at no cost to disabled veterans. Patriot PAWS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is 100% privately funded and relies on a strong volunteer force to accomplish their mission.
This non-profit is based in Rockwall, Texas, which is approximately 30 minutes northeast of Dallas. Due to the significant distance between Rockwall and the Per Stirling offices in Austin, we weren’t able to provide much hands-on volunteering, but our advisors and employees made monetary donations that are being used to help raise and train puppies to serve our disabled veterans in need.
When a veteran receives a service dog from Patriot PAWS, it is only the beginning of the relationship between the organization and their veteran/service dog team. The trainers with the non-profit are always available to assist with any concerns and, if the need arises, are available for a puppy refresher, which they call “boot camp” for the pups.
This is a non-profit organization that Per Stirling stands behind, and will continue to support in the years to come. If you are a Veteran who wants more information about the Patriot PAWS Service Dog application process, you can contact their Veteran Coordinator office at veterans@patriotpaws.org.
